FenderHooks.com evolved from a need to repair and recover fenderhooks© in the Palm Beach area.  With yachts increasingly on the go, Fenderhooks.com expanded its service orientation by providing a website as a contact referral base.  Because so few handrails are to the same dimensions or shape: customization is a necessity.

With its in-house metal fabrication ability, each vessel can have a well fitting fenderhook©.  Total control of the fabricating process gives Fenderhooks.com the flexibility to meet the schedules of the mega yacht or the 'on the go' yachtsman.

Stainless Steel
FenderHooks
© are carefully hand crafted, beginning with the stainless steel shank, which is grade 304. It is sheared to the proper length, the corners are rounded with a 1/2 radius punch and polished smooth so in the unlikely event of being dropped on the deck, no sharp corners will pierce the deck or cut the leathers. As an added benefit to rounded corners 'dog eared' square corners are eliminated. Countersunk holes are punched for thru bolting of hardware using acorn nuts or locking 'aircraft nuts'.

We tend to be traditionalists and use proven components such as Schaefer Cam Cleats, because stainless steel retains its shine and grip over the years, unlike some plastics that lose their grip and fade. Our fairleads have a stainless steel ferrule to reduce chafe on the body of the fairleads. Our grommets are stainless steel that are hydraulically set under 3000 pounds of pressure to prevent being pulled out under high surging load conditions and they don't turn green and corrode.

Leather
Leather and boating conditions are at the opposite ends of the spectrum as to compatibility. Rain, salt, and sun conspire to the leather "dirt".  At FenderHooks.Com  we are continually researching for the best leathers, constantly asking leading tanneries what their chemists are doing and what they recommend for topical treatments.

Since leather does require attention and regular maintenance, we recommend a topical treatment done at our facility and purchase of additional compound and waterproofing agents. We also can supply the more traditional neat's-foot oil if you so desire.

Please remember that leather is a natural product and needs regular maintenance to protect it from the elements. Some of the character building traits of the bovine are referred to in human jargon as 'scars'.  Most are eliminated in the hand selecting process, but a few fully healed scars show thru in the final waterproofing; but do not have a deleterious effect on performance of the leather, but rather add to the imagination or embellishments from the vessel's master.

Our leathers are USA hides.  Both cow hides and sheep skin are chosen for the water resistance and durability.  Thick leathers mean longevity and serviceability.
