Stainless Steel

enderhooks^© are carefully hand crafted, beginning with the stainless steel shank, which is grade 316. It is sheared to the proper length, the corners are rounded with a 1/2 radius and polished smooth, so in the unlikely event of being dropped on the deck, no sharp corners will pierce the deck or cut the leathers. As an added benefit to rounded corners, 'dog eared' square corners are eliminated. Countersunk holes are punched for thru bolting of hardware using acorn nuts or locking aircraft nuts.

We tend to be traditionalists and use proven components such as Schaefer Cam Cleats, because stainless steel retains its shine and grip over the years, unlike some plastics that lose their grip and fade. Our grommets are stainless steel that are hydraulically set under 3000 pounds of pressure to prevent being pulled out under high surging load conditions and they don't turn green and corrode. 

We have recently introduced our own custom made fairleads, made of 316L Stainless Steel. They include the traditional closed fairlead (solid Stainless) and the open more stylish and functional EZ Fairlead. Our proprietary fairleads bear the logo, identifying that they belong to the fine family of enderhooks^©LLC.

It is the proprietary formulation in the tanning process that imparts the characteristics of WOW™ leather. The advantages of WOW™ leather is that it materially reduces traditional maintenance of oiling the leather. WOW™ requires no oil! Is it maintenance free? Yes, but not precisely. We all remember that when the two part paint systems for yacht exteriors hit the market it was not the panacea that the hoopla promised in no maintenance exteriors. So the same companies released surface "coverings" for their paint system. So much for Maintenance Free paint finishes.

With the introduction of WOW™ leathers we make no promise of "maintenance free" or "no maintenance needed" ; for after 35 years of yachting experience with "free, no maintenance, guaranteed absolutely and on and on" has always proved one important point - there is no "free lunch".

The reason Superyachts are super is that they have a super crew. It's the crew that adds the SHINE and SPARKLE to the yacht. The paint shines, the teak glows, the stainless sparkles; because of the CREW.

We at Fenderhooks provide superior LEATHER - WOW™ - , beautiful hardware, and custom service. But, it is the CREW that provides the catalyst that makes the fenderhook continue to SHINE and SPARKLE.

Conservative by nature, enderhooks^© cannot make absolute statements, BUT we will brag about our reduced maintenance found in the WOW™ leather system; about the extra fungicide put into the leather, about the mold reducing agent introduced during the tanning process. And we would be happy to provide a written guarantee for everything, but we cannot control Mother Nature, or the extent of crew details or the total extremes that enderhooks^© may be subjected to; back to the reality of world wise experience: nothing is absolutely, free 100% guaranteed, and positively no maintenance! However, we will exhort "REDUCED MAINTENANCE" absolutely 100% guaranteed. WOW™Leather in partnership with the crew will add that extra sparkle that the boss will recognize.

Wax

Bees wax or Carnauba is for dressing the leather, particularly the edges and thread line; the surface of the leather is water resistant, oil resistant and weather resistant. It's the edges that need treating about every other month or so. This is a reduced maintenance leather and products that flaunt "maintenance free" run counter to good seamanship. By applying a little TLC you'll catch problems before they are statistics, besides its the shine that the owner likes, and a good crew can deliver that shine to the whole vessel.

Hence FenderHooks LLC was created to be a vertically integrated facility to handle the full spectrum of fender hook fabrication. Working almost exclusively with stainless steels with capacities from 1/8" to 1/4" by 6"; cutting, bending, punching holes, and welding; hand selecting, cutting and sewing of leathers and sheepskins.
